Background
The term 'environment' refers to the surroundings in which our organisation operates — encompassing air, water, land, natural resources, flora, fauna, people, and the interaction between these elements. Accure's operations are characterised by proactive and continuous environmental work, viewed as an ongoing improvement process. Accure shall be a leader in environmental responsibility, working systematically and structurally at all levels of the company.
Purpose
This policy is directed at all Accure employees and describes the company's environmental work: who is responsible for what, what goals exist, and what structure guides the work. It is a living document, reviewed annually and updated to reflect new targets, regulations, and capabilities.
Principles and Requirements
Accure applies the substitution principle — continuously replacing older technology with better, more environmentally adapted alternatives. The precautionary principle governs choices involving significant risk, and the circular economy principle is followed in line with the EU Waste Framework Directive. All applicable laws, regulations, and requirements shall be followed. Pollution caused by our operations shall be continuously reduced, and new sources of pollution shall be prevented.
Environmental Goals and Azure CO₂ Monitoring
Accure primarily delivers cloud services via Microsoft Azure. We monitor CO₂ consumption across our entire Azure stack — tracking how much CO₂ the Accure One consumes — and take active measures to reduce it:
- Optimised Compute: only using processing power when needed
- Reduced Storage: data retention limited to what is operationally required (target: 30 days for transactional data)
- Microsoft Azure: carbon neutral since 2012, targeting carbon negative by 2030 — aligned with Accure's own trajectory
Accure's own targets: Carbon Neutral by 2026 · Carbon Negative by 2030. Goals shall be set and reviewed annually. Measurement and reporting is carried out regularly and forms the basis for ongoing improvement.
Ongoing Environmental Work
We are committed to continuously improving our environmental performance and reducing energy consumption. Environmental work shall be well documented to enable comparison with prior assessments and demonstrate progress. Clear rules, guidelines, and routines shall be developed so all employees can make environmentally sound decisions. Environmental consideration shall be integrated into daily work and every business decision.
Competence
All Accure employees shall be environmentally aware, with continuous development relevant to how the company's operations affect the environment. A training programme shall ensure that environmental competence is maintained and developed across the organisation.
Resource Use
Products and services shall be designed for environmental compatibility with resource-efficient delivery. All stages — from raw materials and product consumption to transport and waste — shall be managed as sustainably as possible. Waste shall be managed in line with the waste hierarchy. Paper recycling and waste sorting are required at all offices. Chemicals shall be avoided wherever possible, applying the substitution principle.
Climate Impact
- Workplaces and facilities shall be energy-efficient and environmentally sound
- Business travel shall use the most environmentally friendly option available (rail preferred over air)
- Electronic meetings shall replace physical travel wherever quality is not compromised
- All technology renewal shall result in continuous upgrade towards more environmentally friendly equipment
Active Programmes
Recycling: Office operations generate various waste streams (paper, packaging, electronics, batteries). Accure actively reduces waste volume and ensures what is generated is recycled in an environmentally responsible way.
Procurement: Environmental criteria are weighted in all purchasing decisions. Consumables shall carry established environmental certification. Suppliers are evaluated on their environmental practices.
Energy: Accure reduces energy consumption across offices and cloud infrastructure. All energy used shall be environmentally certified where possible.
Suppliers: A supplier code of conduct is communicated to all Accure suppliers and approved by company management.
Travel: All business travel includes consideration of using more sustainable transport (rail over air), using video conferencing as alternative, and selecting lower-emission vehicles.
Responsibility
Managers are responsible for ensuring that employees are informed of what this policy means and are given the opportunity to comply with it. They shall also work to ensure that employees feel accountable for and actively engaged in preventive environmental work. Employees shall be encouraged to contribute creative solutions in the environmental area. Ultimate responsibility rests with the Board of Directors.
